The Birth of the “American Performance Cruiser” These principles are a crucial part of ARCH’s mission statement. It was a company built on a solid foundation of enthusiasm, passion, design, and innovation. However, after Reeves had explained his reasoning about creating something exceptional as a lasting legacy to the motorcycle industry, Hollinger agreed, and the ARCH Motorcycle Company, LLC was formally founded in 2011. ![]() Reeves was so impressed that he insisted that his exceptional motorcycle should be unleashed on the world.Īgain, forever the pragmatist, Hollinger wasn’t immediately enthusiastic. During the process, the project evolved into something else.Īs soon as Hollinger finished the actor’s custom, and after the pair had taken it for a ride, Reeves wanted more. Eventually, Hollinger relented and started work on a custom bike for Reeves. Over the years, the pair discussed their own philosophies about motorcycle riding and what a motorcycle should be. At the time, Hollinger said no, but this initial meeting between the two marked the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Reeves was looking for a custom builder to work on his Harley Davidson, installing custom handlebars, a big sissy bar with a throne seat, and all manner of custom paraphernalia. In 2007, Reeves met with Hollinger for the first time. ![]() Though the company was officially founded in 2011, the history of Arch Motorcycle dates back a little further. ![]() You are welcome to sand a few random spots down to the gelcoat and inspect. Other things to mention are that the boat has bottom paint, but no sign of blisters. I would do it myself, and that is why I bought it, but recent demands on my time dictate that I would have to put this boat on the back burner for too long of a time. I figure a person can buy it for that, put a couple grand in it getting it rigged and shipshape to their liking, and come out ahead. ![]() Condition is "fair" at best (rusty), although it does have new tires, wheels, and bearings. For the whole Camino Frances, these are essential and a bit of running-in will significantly reduce the amount of blisters in the first kilometres. In my opinion, this section is nothing more than a long hike and you won't need any big backpack or sturdy hiking shoes if your fitness is average. Numbers increase exponentially after Sarria as the Camino del Norte meets the Camino Frances but mostly because the majority go for the last 100km to qualify for the compostela. Moreover, the last 100km and the last 250km for bikers/pilgrims on horses have become quite touristy, being marked every 100 metres and sometimes with dustbins and signage which is non-existent in the first 300-400km. so as not to outshadow the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (which is really not worth the 775km if prime importance were to be given solely to the destination). For example, in the last 150km, there are no major cathedrals/churches/chapels for a specific reason. It is the whole route in itself that is truly outstanding as every pilgrim's experience and interaction with nature or with other pilgrims is unique and enriching. To me the whole outstanding universal value of this WHS and/or pilgrimage is that there is no destination/landmark/monument which is worthy alone of such an effort. Already towards the beginning of May, I walked by a couple of villages with no room/bed available in any albergue by 14:30 (the film The Way has drastically increased the number of North Americans!). In hindsight, this was a crucial decision as most probably I would not have completed the Camino Frances had I opted for summer (not only because of the heat especially across the meseta, but mostly because of the huge surge of pilgrims). Secondly, I opted to walk in Spring which is by far less crowded/cooler but at the same time I had to bring a windbreaker jacket with me. First of all, I had to sacrifice a year's worth of leave to have enough time for the longest Camino. A lot of planning and mental training/endurance was required to complete this pilgrimage/WHS but I managed to fulfill my vow. Walking from France, I missed the Somport pass which would take slightly more time. I walked the Camino Frances from St Jean in France to Santiago de Compostela in 32 full walking days (775km). Logistics: The sights along the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in Spain can be seen by automobile, but the experience is much better when taking the trails on foot or by bike, and I have no doubt it is a lifechanging journey for anyone completing a pilgrimage also worthwhile is a visit to Cape Finisterre, a final stop for many pilgrims after reaching Santiago de Compostela. I'm glad these Camino routes remain popular and protected, as they make for an unforgettable experience. While I didn't get to witness any of the pilgrims as they first embarked on the Camino, I can say with certainty that those I saw at Monte do Gozo, which offers the first views of Santiago de Compostela, and at the journey's end at the cathedral in the city were extremely joyful and reflective. ![]() The weather was remarkably sunny and warm for the entire trip, and I thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility of the trails. ![]() In total, we spent six days hiking the routes: two days admiring the rugged coastal beauty of the Camino del Norte two days crossing the hills of the original Camino Primitivo, which Asturian King Alfonso II established from Oviedo in the 9th century and two days along the more traveled Camino Francés, which was the first section of the Camino in Spain inscribed on the World Heritage Site list. Although I traveled with a tour group, there was ample time to appreciate the trails in relative solitude, and even as we neared Santiago and more pilgrims appeared on the trails, it was still not terribly crowded in late May. The routes were great places for reflection and for enjoying the varied nature of the north of Spain. ![]() I thought about those pilgrims embarking on a pilgrimage as I hiked along some of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in Spain last month, and wondered whether the pilgrims starting off on the Camino felt similar joy as they started their journeys.
